Future options After achieving a level 1, many students progress onto a level 2 full-time or an apprenticeship. Alternatively students may go on to be an assistant in a kennels or rescue centre, an animal care assistant, dog grooming assistant, cattery assistant, pet shop assistant, assistant groom, zoo assistant, equine groom or stud hand. Course includes On the level 1 Introductory Diploma, you will learn the basics of working within the Land- based sector. You will have practical sessions in our Animal Welfare Centre and Equine Yard to learn about basic animal care. You will also have lessons on plant care which is an essential part of working within the animal care industry. Additionally, you will cover topics that will help to develop your personal skills such as researching a topic and being organised. Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care Duration One year Location All sites Entry requirements Four GCSE grades at D-E/2-3 or above or a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject. Future options After achieving a level 2, many students progress onto a Level 3 Diploma, the Extended Diploma in Animal Management full-time or an apprenticeship. Alternatively students may go on to be an animal technician, dog groomer, zoo keeper or wildlife conservationist. Course includes This course will develop the practical and theoretical elements of animal health, welfare and care. You will expand on your husbandry skills, working with our wide range of species to learn all about the anatomy and biology of animals. You will take an in-depth look at their behaviour and the wide ranging aspects of animal conservation.
