Future options After achieving your Level 1 you can progress to Level 2 full-time or an apprenticeship. Course includes This one-year course will introduce you to the fundamentals of countryside and estate maintenance, with activities such as hedge laying, coppicing and pruning, and planting. You will develop your practical skills and gain underpinning knowledge. Level 2 Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture Duration One year Location Moulton Entry requirements Four GCSE grades at D-E/2-3 or above or a Level 1 Diploma in a related subject. Future options A Level 2 Diploma will give you the chance to progress to Level 3 or an apprenticeship. Alternatively, you may go on to be an assistant groundsman, assistant woodland officer, assistant estate worker or assistant tree surgeon / inspector. Course includes You will develop your skills in identifying and surveying a wide range of trees and plants as you work your way through this course. We will help you to learn the operation and maintenance of all relevant equipment and ensure that you can safely work. To support your practical skills, you will take part in theory sessions based on the science behind trees to further develop your knowledge. Level 3 Diploma in Forestry and Arboriculture Duration Two years Location Moulton Entry requirements Four GCSE grades at A*-C/4-9, preferably including English or Maths. Future options After achieving a level 3, you may go on to a degree level course in woodland conservation, woodland management or forestry recreation. Alternatively, you may progress onto employment as a tree surgeon, groundsman, tree inspector, woodland surveyor, arboriculture officer, environmental woodland manager, production arborist or estate worker. Course includes This two-year course will show you the practical aspect of tree identification and felling as well as the recreational and conservation side of arboriculture. You will gain vital practical skills in woodland management as well as the ability to maintain machinery including chainsaws and carry out cross-cutting.
