Study will be supplemented with real-life hands-on experience and an extensive enrichment programme including industry visits and guest speakers. Carpenters and joiners make and install wooden fixtures and fittings. They can work in many areas including on construction-sites, fitting out shops and bars, and building sets for film and TV. If you enjoy working with wood and want to put your practical skills to good use, this could be an ideal career for you. You’ll need an eye for detail, good maths skills for working out measurements and the ability to follow technical plans. How will I learn? You will be assessed on a variety of units and will cover a range of work from making joints, using portable power tools and first and second fix carpentry work. The wide variety of work covered reflects the industry as this is the kind of work that is carried out every day in homes and on-sites across the country. These skills will enable you to undertake a variety of tasks in most carpentry working environments. Maths and English All students who have not achieved a grade C or 4-5 in GCSE English or maths are required to complete a tailored study programme to develop these skills. All lessons embed English and maths skills, ensuring that all students that study at Moulton College are able to apply these transferable skills to any given role. Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery Duration One Year Location Moulton and Higham Ferrers Entry requirements GCSE grades at E-G/1-2 or equivalent or an entry Level 3 Diploma in a related subject. Future options A Level 1 Diploma will give you the chance to progress to a Level 2, an apprenticeship or employment in the industry as a trainee carpenter. Course includes You will learn the basics of woodwork fixtures and fittings. We will teach you the health and safety aspects of working in a workshop as well as the proper preparation and maintenance of the tools you will use on a daily basis. You will learn to produce high quality work in a safe environment that encourages creativity.
