If you choose to work in housing, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your contribution really matters, because everyone needs somewhere decent to live. For those who enjoy contact with a wide cross- section of the public, there are many opportunities in the ‘front line’ of housing, dealing directly with tenants, their needs and their options. You could be involved in managing an advice centre such as a Citizens Advice Bureau(CAB), helping the public with matters arising from housing legislation, landlord and tenant relationships or rents, or advising tenants on their welfare rights and benefits. Your responsibilities could affect all sorts of initiatives from small sheltered housing schemes to the regeneration of large estates, from special needs housing to everyday maintenance of the housing service. Most importantly, your work could have a direct and beneficial effect on people and the standard of their homes and lifestyles. There are many roles within the housing sector and you may choose to be a generic officer or a specialist in anti-social behaviour, housing law, housing finance or development and regeneration. A housing apprenticeship is an ideal start to an exciting career. How will I learn? Our lecturers are all specialists in the sector and all have experience working in a range of roles within the housing sector. They will guide you to achieve your targets by setting high expectations in a supportive teaching and learning environment. Expect to study an exciting combination of theory and work-based learning, with ongoing assessment throughout your course. Maths and English All students who have not achieved a grade C or 4-5 in GCSE English or maths are required to complete a tailored study programme to develop these skills. All lessons embed English and maths skills, ensuring that all students that study at Moulton College are able to apply these transferable skills to any given role.
