The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) represents the biggest overhaul of data protection law in a generation. Replacing the current Data Protection Act in May 2018, the GDPR will introduce new responsibilities for organisations that process personal data and give individuals additional rights over how their personal data can be used. Its aim is to ensure that data protection safeguards remain fit for purpose in today’s globally-connected world of big data.
