Future options Students who achieve an extended diploma can further their studies at university. Alternatively students may go on to be an animal technician, dog groomer, lab technician, zoo keeper or wildlife conservationist. Course includes Biology and animal management is the focus of this two-year course. You will be expected to understand how to recognise and treat a range of diseases and demonstrate advanced animal care across all our species. A large part of your studies will include practical animal husbandry skills and the theory of animal genetics, as well as general anatomy and physiology of the animals on-site. Apprenticeships in Animal Care Animal Care and Dog Grooming pathways available Apprentices in Animal Care will have a permanent job in the sector and will combine work and College- based training. At college, you’ll learn theory and develop your practical skills which will then be assessed to establish your competence within your workplace. You will attend college on a day release basis and these frameworks take between 18 months and two years to complete. There are two different routes depending on your work role. You may already have an employer who wants you to complete an apprenticeship with them but if you don’t, get in touch and we’ll help you find one. The good news is that apprenticeships start all year round.
